In 1854 Johann Heinrich Bubi and Caterina Caroline Linken left Germany for America with their two children, Christian Herman Nicholas and Theresa. Twelve years later Christian Herman Buby married Margaret Elizabeth Wengert and together had 11 children. This blog is to find and unite their descendents.

I had the good fortune, through Kris Rockel (a Wengert relative) to meet one of Theresa Buby's descendants who confirmed that the family stayed in Ontario until Herman completed his carpenter apprenticeship before moving to Michigan in 1860. Theresa by then had married Peter Mutchenbacher and lived to old age along with her husband. I call them the Canadian Buby's, though by WWI they changed the name to Baker.
ReplyDeleteI met one of the great-granddaughters. living in Ottawa who has a lot of information about the Canadian family, which would be nice to include here as well. I had always wondered about this family.
